We as humans, are emotionally complicated. If we weren't, life would be a bit more tame and even-keeled. Unfortunately, we can all remember times where our emotion has convoluted our ability to make sound decision. We held on to something and refused to let it go. Freed something without a fight and walked (or rather, sprinted) away. Or jumped on a life changing "opportunity"; all based upon emotion and in the absence of any real intellectual consideration. You see, in retrospect - we all have times where better intellectual inventory would have provided for a more clear decision making process.
Then again, isn't our spectrum of emotion just one of the elements that truly differentiate us from other species? According to scientists, we are the only species that blush. That's correct. A physiological response that can involuntarily reveal a variety of our innermost emotions. Perhaps the lifelong journey of attempting to rule and balance intellect vs. emotion is also one of the most problematic denominators behind finding true fulfillment. Your emotion possesses one definition, while your intellect possesses another. Emotion takes inventory of components like love, family, friends, faith and health. On the other hand, intellect examines wealth, professional growth potential, possessions, organizational membership, and peer acceptance or accolades. Attempting to gain their symbiotic convergence can often escape the best of us.
So what does all of this have to do with personal and professional development? Simple! It's the skill of knowing where to hold or release Instinct vs. Emotion. So, should you blush and feel incredibly overwhelmed to react, IMMEDIATELY unleash Instinct to brush it away and serve to mitigate the situation.
